The premieres for autumn-winter are announced
2021. 05. 04.

Following a tradition of more than 90 years, on the 1st of May the sale of the season tickets for the premieres in the autumn-winter at Vígszínház has started. The theatre plans the reopening in September. Those premieres, what couldn’t be visited due to the pandemic, are going to be on the repertoire next season as well. At Vígszínház the ‘Cabaret’ and the ‘Children of Paradise’, at Pesti Theatre ‘The Stone’ and ‘Bella Figura’ is going to be played. These performances will be followed by the new premieres in the autumn-winter season: ‘The Seagull’ by Chekhov and ‘Party’, a contemporary comedy.

The premieres until the end of the year 2021 were announced by the 125-year-old Vígszínház. The season will start with the openings of the performances delayed due to the pandemic, and of course the two premieres from last year, ‘The Visit’ and ‘The Father’ will be played too. Interesting fact about the latter, that the author of the play, Florian Zeller received an Oscar for best adapted screenplay, while Anthony Hopkins won the Prize for best actor for his performance in the film version. The main character André is played at Pesti Színház by András Kern.

At Vígszínház the popular musical ‘Cabaret’ will be staged by Attila Béres, the ‘Children of Paradise’ is going to be directed by Attila Vidnyánszky Jr. In Hungary, Chekhov was “discovered” first by Vígszínház. The audience could meet the author and his plays here first, such as ‘Three Sisters’, ‘The Cherry Orchard’ and during the decades many emblematic Chekhov-performances were born at Vígszínház. ‘The Seagull’ is said to be the most personal confession of the writer, since besides the elements of his own life, he also wrote about the destiny of some of his closed ones. ‘The Seagull’ is a comedy, where the unconditional love for theatre, the eternal seeking for happiness, the pain of unrequited love, the feeling of not being understood, the solitude and the fight against mediocrity are portrayed. The performance will be staged by David Doiasvili, the director of the Vaso Abashidze Music and Drama State Theatre, Tbilisi.

At Pesti Theatre the drama by Marius Mayenburg ‘The Stone’ will be staged by Michal Dočekal, the director of Prague City Theatres. ‘Bella Figura’, the comedy by Yasmina Reza will be directed by Ferenc Török. Vígszínház had always an aim for premiering contemporary plays. This tradition will be continued by the new opening ‘Party’ at Pesti Theatre. The comedy by Sally Potter, English screenwriter and director will be staged by Béla Paczolay. Some friends are gathering at an elegant house in London to celebrate:  Janet, the housewife had been elected minister in the British shadow cabinet. It seems though, that all the guests have some secrets or some sensational announcement. They care less and less about Janet, soon the night is not about her and about her successes anymore. Mysterious phone calls, one awaited guests stays away and also a gun comes up…

In the second half of the season 2021/2022 Vígszínház is preparing further premieres. The whole year will be about the jubilee, the artists of Vígszínház will remember with numerous programs, events and publications of the last 125 years.
