Six of our highly successful shows, The Great Dictator, The Great Gatsby, The Castle, The Seagull, Pride and Prejudice and Pinocchio can be seen with English surtitles at Vígszínház. Stage adaptations of internationally well-known pieces promise an exciting experience for foreigners living in Hungary and tourists visiting our country.

Please note that the inscription is best seen on the ground floor from rows 11-18 and from the first two rows of the balcony.

We look forward to seeing you at our performances!

The Great Dictator:

Charlie Chaplin’s most influential work is a deeply humanistic piece. The ruthless sarcasm and ingenious clowning, which Chaplin uses as he plays both the little barber and the great dictator, relieved millions of their anxieties. His unforgettable accessories, the moustache, the shoes and the bowler hat along with his gestures have all imprinted themselves onto our minds.

The Great Gatsby:

The characters of the cult novel now also come to life on the stage of Vígszínház. Gatsby, a dandy boy with a mysterious past, creates a luxurious world around himself to win back Daisy, the great love of his life. We invite our audience here, to this world full of luxury, turbulence and despair, which is driven by a single, endless question: where are you?

The Castle:

On a dark, snowy winter night K, the surveyor arrives in the village overlooked by the castle of Count Westwest. K has been ordered there to do surveying work, but no matter how hard he tries to get up to the castle, he fails to make contact with his clients, only the locals, who in turn receive him with suspicion. Maybe the castle doesn’t even exist, and maybe K isn’t a surveyor either, although the next day two assistants apply to him…

The Seagull:

The Seagull is one of the greatest works of dramatic literature. A real masterpiece, an irregular comedy that is considered to be the writer’s most personal confession. It contains all the pain of unrequited love, the endless love for theater, the eternal search for happiness and the struggle against loneliness and mediocrity.

Pride and Prejudice:

When the free-thinking, sharp-witted Elizabeth meets the handsome but mysterious Mr. Darcy, his pride and her prejudices make any kind of rapprochement impossible. As their destinies cross each other again and again, their attraction grows stronger, but before their love can be fulfilled, they must overcome many obstacles, but most of all their own weaknesses. Jane Austen’s cult novel has been adapted in a thousand different ways, and Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy are still one of the best-known and most popular love couples ever created. The secret of Pride and Prejudice’s success lies in its lovable characters, its ironic tone, and its witty and unexpected twists.

Pinocchio:

Everyone knows the tale of the world’s most famous wooden puppet. However, only a few people have read Carlo Collodi’s novel, published in 1883, even though The Adventures of Pinocchio is incredibly entertaining, full of twists and turns, and of course, a little scary sometimes. This new version at Vígszínház strives to show as much of the original story’s wild imagination, playfulness and humor as possible.
